North Dakota Native Jason Senti Makes WSOP's November Nine

He might be the shortest stacked player when the final nine gather in November for this year's World Series of Poker Main Event Championship, but Grand Forks, ND, native Jason Senti’s decision to quit an electrical engineering job to become a full-time poker player certainly seems to have paid off, especially considering he beat out a field of more than 7,300 players and is guaranteed to take home at least $811,823!

League Players Turn Freeroll Into Hard Cash At WSOP

FOUR players cashed for a combined total of over $12,000 in this year's WSOP! Thomas Fandrich from the Brick City Bar & Grill in Hebron, ND was the last league player to bust (85th place) in Event 54, where 4 out 21 league players scored cold hard cash. This was a remarkable feat, considering the size of the field (3,844 players). Statistically, you might expect ONE cash, so FOUR was a huge accomplishment...Congrats to Troy Sattler from the Decoy Bar in Webster, SD and Art Ziemann from the Westside Bar in Mandan and the Bismarck VFW, and Brandon Dosch the Bowler in Fargo, ND.

Brian Kozak Is New National Champion

Brian Kozak walked away the big winner at Caesars Palace after conquering the field of 24 players in the "Destination Las Vegas: WSOP 2010" championship freeroll. Brian makes South Dakota proud and ads to the stories of success coming from the Sportsmen's Rendezvous, a small-town bar that has had more than its share of big winners since joining the league a few years ago.

Kozak defeated 2-time national qualifier Nels Peterson (runner up) and fellow South Dakotan Troy Sattler (3rd place) in the end. Nels was near the chip lead all evening but had a run of bad luck on the final table. Glen Nichols represented Nebraska well, but finished in 4th place. Defending national champ Andrew Downing from Texas threatened to take down back-to-back championships, but came up short (5th place) in the end. Brian Kozak's supporters cheered wildly when the final hand revealed he was in fact the new National Champ!

Art Ziemann Snaps the Streak

This past Saturday afternoon (May 15) turned out to be a beautiful day inside and out at the Vegas Motel in Minot as 112 poker players from across the state of North Dakota gathered to find out who would become the next five Dakota Poker League champions during our Destination Las Vegas North Dakota State Championship.

It seemed almost all of the 112 players were exhibiting some signs of spring fever as it took nearly an hour to lose our first player! With no one willing to lose their spot early on, Harold Tweeten from the Lewis & Clark Saloon in Washburn took the pressure off the rest of the field to become the first casualty of the tournament. But don’t feel too sorry for Harold because he didn’t go home empty handed! In fact for being the first one out, Harold played tournament emcee Mitch Schock in a heads up game for some new apparel. You’ll likely see Harold sporting his new FPN gear during our Gold Rush 2 promotion during his weekly games in Washburn.  Read More

In Memory of Bob Haas

The Dakota Poker League was saddened today as we learned of the passing of one of its members Bob Haas.  Bob was a regular at the felt playing in many leagues around the Bismarck Mandan area as well as local casinos.  He was an avid supporter of the league and just recently Bob was one of the six winners of the Fall Poker League Spectacular and will be leaving us as a champion.

The Dakota Poker League/Free Poker Network would like to send our deepest sympathies to Bob's family as he was a great guy and will truly be missed.
