This past weekend players from all over the state of North Dakota gathered to take their chance of qualifying for the "Vegas or Bust" National Championship. Up for grabs were ten spots with the top five winning the bonus of an airfare allowance and hotel accommodations. In the end there were ten brand new champions!

ND Gears Up for Vegas or Bust ChampionshipThis Saturday on April 28th the state of North Dakota and all its qualifiers from around the state are getting ready to hit the felt at the Bismarck Eagles at noon. Each person will be trying to capture their spot at the Vegas or Bust National Championship. Altogether there will be a total of ten new ND champions. The top five will all win the travel package which includes airfare allowance and a hotel stay. The championship features five husband and wife couples playing in the tournament this weekend a new FPN record. They are Brian and Shelly Aune, Galen and Linda Brown, Howard and Sue Burns, Mark and Sandy Carey, and Andy and Judy Van Dorpe. Hopefully they don't draw seat cards on the same table as each other to start. Good luck to them and the rest of the state this weekend. The top 100 point earners were invited back for a freeroll with the winner getting a $1,500 WSOP package. Second through fifth place received a buy-in into the following days event the 2012 DPT event number 3, while sixth through tenth got a satellite to try to get into the event. The next contest has been announced! The "Golden Ticket" is a fun spoof on Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory to determine the next FPN Poker Pro! The national champ will represent the league and have multiple tournament appearances for an entire year with a $10,000+ in travel, tournament buy-ins, and other benefits of being the FPN Champ! We had some fun with the theme and a big thanks goes out to all participating bars and players for supporting the league and making this contest possible.
Curt Hoffart from Rugby, ND is the first ever Dakota Poker Tour Champion. Curt bested 65 other players from the Eastern side of North Dakota. The DPT is a series of year long charity buy-in events played in North Dakota. Each player gets 50 points for buying in and depending on how they finish can accumulate more, a lot like league play, but with money at stake each tournament.
